For the past year and a half, our home base has been Las Vegas, Nevada. Most are, as we once were, under the impression that the only thing to do in Las Vegas is visit the strip to watch a show or gamble. This couldn't be farther from the truth. Within 45 minutes, you can be in the mountains at Mt. Charleston, at the lake in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. hike red cliffs in the Valley of Fire State Park, or take a scenic drive - Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area to name a few of the many places to see and visit near Las Vegas.
At Lake Mead National Recreation Area, on the Nevada side, there are several campground options. One of them is the Lake Mead RV Village which is privately run and offers full hook-up rv sites with a fire pit and picnic table. Per the site map, the rv site options are 30 lake view, 39 pull-through and 29 back-in sites. Of course, the lake view site rate will be a little bit more than the others, but the view is well worth it.
We have come to enjoy coming to Lake Mead for a weekend getaway, and we have always stayed at the Lake Mead RV Village. We loved taking our chairs out and sitting in the sunshine while we enjoyed the view. The sunrise from our bedroom window is a great way to start our day, and the sunset lays way for the beautiful dark sky and twinkling stars. The lake is within walking distance, or you can choose to drive down, and take a canopy, some chairs, and snacks and drinks to make a day of it.
The Lake Mead RV Village office staff and campground host have always been so courteous, nice and friendly. The campground is always impeccable. We have not one complaint. Well, we do have one, and that's having to leave at the end of our stay. Next time, though we are going to have to switch it up a little and give one of the other campgrounds at Lake Mead a try.
